Village of Newburgh Heights – Residential Housing Inspector

Residential Housing Inspector – Full Time
Non-exempt – 32 hours a week

The Village of Newburgh Heights Department of Housing and Building is currently accepting applications for a Residential Housing Inspector to perform interior and exterior inspections on residential structures using property maintenance codes and the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Newburgh Heights. These inspections will include rental, point of sale, and curbside inspections. The position will include communication with residents, property owners, and contractors regarding code compliance. In addition, the position requires administrative skills related to preparing inspection reports, computer data entry, providing resources and occasionally attending monthly Mayor’s Court.


A successful housing inspector will build relationships with residents, provide guidance and resources as needed and assist the Building Commissioner to help grow and protect the Village of Newburgh Heights’ housing stock.


Candidates with home inspection training or experience, community development and/or non-profit housing experience, property management experience or a desire to obtain a residential building inspector certification with the Board of Building Standards preferred.


Requirements:
 High school diploma or equivalent
 Valid State of Ohio driver’s license
 Strong written and verbal communication skills
 Comfortable engaging with residents, owners, administrative and community leaders
 Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative during periods of minimal supervision
 Possess excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
 Possess above average computer skills and ability to use up to date technology in the field
 Physical ability to work outdoors, potentially inclement weather, walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs, and to move or lift objects up to 30 pounds
 Other responsibilities as assigned
Compensation:
$28 an hour
