The City of University Heights has an opening for the full-time position of Chief Building Official.
The Chief Building Official is responsible for the daily management of the Building Division and works under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and Community Development.
The primary duties of the Chief Building Official are: overseeing all construction in the City to ensure compliance with the State of Ohio Building Code; supervising the daily activities of City building inspectors; ensuring the efficient flow of plans through the City’s building permit review process; investigating violations of the building code and other relevant City ordinances and taking corrective action as necessary; ensuring the proper organization and keeping of records for all permits, inspections, construction plans, etc.; and, providing relevant expert advice to the City administration, boards and commissions and answering the building and construction related questions of contractors, design professionals, businesses and the general public.
The successful candidate must have strong customer service and public interaction skills and must possess a State of Ohio Board of Building Standards Certification for Building Official and Residential Building Official, along with one or more of the following State of Ohio Certifications: Master Plans Examiner, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Fire Protection Inspector, etc.
