The City of University Heights Building Department is accepting applications for a full-time Certified Building Inspector. The qualified candidate must have at least two (2) years of experience performing certified code inspections and is currently holding the required State of Ohio Board of Building Standards certifications as a Building Inspector and one (1) or more of the following: Electrical Safety Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, and/or Mechanical Inspector. Interim Certifications will be considered for each of these positions. Other OBBS certifications are desirable but not required.
The qualified candidate should have a thorough knowledge of building construction processes, along with the ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications. A general knowledge of local zoning and building maintenance codes is also required. The qualified candidate must have the ability to operate computers, navigate the internet, use general office equipment, including, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Building Department databases. Accuracy and consistency are required, along with good communicative skills. The applicant must have a valid Ohio drivers’ license and insurable driving record.
The job duties include but are not limited to the enforcement of the Building Codes of the State of Ohio which include the Codified Ordinances of the City of University Heights; addressing questions and concerns regarding codes, laws, and regulations of contractors, design professionals, businesses and the general public; writing clear and concise reports and letters and communicating well with co-workers and the public.
