Position Summary:
The Building Inspector II (Rental Inspector) is a full time employee responsible for inspections of rental properties in the city, together with related tasks and duties, and others as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain files regarding rental properties
Perform rental inspections pursuant to rental permit applications, together with follow up inspections, and inspections in response to resident or tenant complaints
Send violation notices on properties that do not comply with code, follow up to check for compliance
Work with city legal department and appear in housing court as necessary
Other duties as assigned by the Building Commissioner
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to work effectively with the public, to be tactful and compassionate, to communicate effectively orally and in writing
One year experience in the construction field; knowledge of Ohio Building and Residential Codes is a plus; state of Ohio or ICC certifications as a Building Inspector and/or electrical/plumbing certificates a plus
Ability to work with computers and tablets, proficiency at basic software packages
High school diploma or equivalent
Skills Required:
Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills
