Job Description | Under general supervision conducts residential, commercial and industrial, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and building code inspections; issues compliance orders, certificates of occupancy and building permits; investigates complaints of code regulation violations; conducts research of applicable codes and equipment; answers inquires and interprets Building Codes. Performs other related duties as required. |
Required Qualifications | Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Completion of a high school equivalent education. Must possess a Class III Certification of competency issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards, and a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license. Must be bondable. |

Work Environment | An employee will be exposed to the hazards associated with HVAC, building construction, remodeling, installation, and the inspection site. |

Description of Job Duty | The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
Performs field inspections of building projects, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) installation in new or existing residential, commercial and/or industrial buildings; inspects builders/contractor’s plans to insure building compliance; red-tags (rejects) unapproved equipment or work, re-inspects rejected work upon completion of repairs, etc.; coordinates inspections with fire department. Processes permits for HVAC; building construction, remodeling and installations; certifies compliance of installation in writing; prepares reports of completed inspections; researches unlisted equipment to assure compliance with Building Code; examines building plans for code compliance; store and retrieve information using electronic data processing terminal. Responds to, investigates and prepares follow-up reports on (e.g. work without a permit, un-certified equipment or contractors, etc.); prepares un-certified equipment or contractors, etc.); prepares techniques; letters to citizens, builders, etc. in responses to complaints, issues compliance orders; attends seminars, workshops contractor’s meetings, etc. to upgrade and maintain skills and knowledge. |
