PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT
The Building Department Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Director of Planning and Community Development. This position is responsible for overseeing the expeditious and efficient processing of permit applications through the City’s construction review process, including accepting application materials and inspecting for completeness; entering applications into the City’s construction management database system; dispersing applications to various departments and entities for further review; monitoring and promoting the expeditious review of permit applications; and coordinating the issuance of permits approved by the Chief Building Official. The Building Department Assistant is also responsible for efficiently coordinating the inspection schedules of in-house and contract building inspectors, answering the construction related questions of the public, facilitating the day-to-day operation of the Building Department, and maintaining all construction related records and reports as required by the Community Development Department and the State of Ohio.
The successful candidate must possess the ability to function in a dynamic and demanding work environment and must have exceptional customer service, organization, processing and computer skills, including the ability to use advanced construction management computer databases. A minimum of four (4) years experience in a construction related field and/or a Bachelor’s Degree in planning or a related field is preferred.
This position is slotted at Grade C on the City’s wage scale and pays between $15.32 – $19.15 per hour, depending upon qualifications.
