The City of Painesville is seeking a highly qualified Building Official to assist in addressing issues from the past. The position is supervisory and skilled field inspections with office work in securing compliance with building codes. Work involves responsibility for coordinating inspections for all areas of construction and for inspecting residential and other buildings for compliance with the City’s construction, plumbing, electrical, heating, and zoning codes.
The applicant must have a thorough knowledge of the methods, material, and techniques involved in general building construction and other areas of specialization such as plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and plans. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to supervise, work well with others, and resolve problems.
Mandatory special requirements: Certified by the Ohio Board of Building Standards in the following – Building Official (non-residential); Residential Building Official; Building Inspector (non-residential); Electrical Safety Inspector, Plans Examiner. Qualified applicant will be brought in at the top step for the position.
