The City of Lakewood is currently accepting applications for a well-qualified Building Inspector to join our Housing and Building team. Our team members work with residential and commercial clients to ensure code compliance by reviewing construction documents, issuing permits, conducting inspections, investigating complaints, and participating in court proceedings. Effective oral and written communication skills are required to maintain inspection records, issue violation letters, collaborate with other team members, inform superiors and respond to information requests. With courtesy, effective software use and efficient organization, our inspectors strive to provide excellent service to Lakewood’s residents, business owners and the contractors working in our community.
Applicants must possess relevant experience, OBBS Building Inspector Certification (BI), OBBS Residential Building Inspector Certification (RBI) or OBBS Residential Building Official Certification (RBO) and either OBBS Electrical Safety Inspector Certification (ESI) or OBBS Plumbing Inspector Certification (PI) & OBBS Residential Plumbing Inspector (RPI). Candidates with interim certifications may be considered.

Union Position. Salary is approximately $50,000 annually + $1,000 annually for PI, ESI & BO each. Use of own vehicle is required with mileage reimbursed. They pay Boconeo dues and reimburse for State Certifications. They will also reimburse for PASSING ICC exams. Medical, life, dental, prescription, flexible spending account and AFLAC . Deferred Comp. PERS, Sick, Vacation, Holiday and Personal Days with minor variations. Job duties are heavy on the property maintenance side. Good place to work if you are starting out in code enforcement.
