The City of Garfield Heights is seeking applicants for the full-time exempt position of Building Commissioner. Qualified candidates must have a current certification from the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards as a Building Official, a Building Inspector and a Residential Building Official. Additional certification as an Electrical Safety Inspector, Plumbing Inspector or both is preferable.
The Building Commissioner will be responsible for all provisions of the Ohio Building Code, the Residential Code of Ohio and all local codes and standards. Responsibilities will also include inspecting buildings during construction, alteration and/or repair for code compliance and overseeing the successful completion of the condemnation and demolition process.
The Building Commissioner enforces the Zoning Code of the City of Garfield Heights and schedules the agendas for the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Building Commissioner will be required to work with local, state and federal standards and regulations and deal with the public in a municipal setting. Must have a proven ability and leadership skills to effectively manage employees.
