Job Title: Housing Inspector (26)

Status: A. Classified. B. Non-exempt – FLSA.
Job Summary: Responsible for the inspection and the enforcement of the ordinances relating to dwelling units in the City. Works under the immediate direction of the Housing Manager/Chief Housing Inspector.
Job Duties:
– Check new and existing buildings for conformance to local codified ordinances.
– Observe building conditions and issue correction notices to responsible parties.
– Obtain evidence and prepare non-compliance reports.
– Keep inspection records.
– Testify in court as prosecution witness.
– Perform other related duties as required.

Work Environment: Light work (exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally) indoor/outdoor. Subject to hazards: moving mechanical parts, electric current, water, chemicals; atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dusts, gases. Physical activity: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking and feeling.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. I.C.C. Certifications Property Maintenance Inspector and Residential Building Inspector preferred. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Experience in one or more of the building trades, construction, or related experience. Ability to express or exchange ideas and instructions accurately and clearly.
