Position Title: Secretary I
Department: Building
Status: Part-time
Hours Per Week: Average of 20 hours per week.
Work Schedule: 3 Days Per Week, 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Some flexibility, as workload permits.
Benefits: None, other than OPERS.
Classification: 12
Hourly Range: $15.50 – $24.72 per hour, based on qualifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the Building Department including, but not limited to answering incoming calls, preparing routine letters/correspondence, scheduling appointments, and general office duties.
Responding to and assisting the public by phone and email or directing to the appropriate person.
Communicate with residents, contractors and employees in a professional manner ensuring courteous, accurate and timely response.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function.
Requirements
- Previous administrative, secretarial, clerical or office related experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including strong knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, accuracy and follow through
- Strong Customer Service skills
- Knowledge of mathematics and good grammar
- Work well with others
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree Preferred.
Experience
2-5 years of administrative or clerical experience using Microsoft Office. Experience with prevailing wages preferred.
Tools and Equipment Used
Proficiency in the use of computer, laptop, copy machine and standard office equipment.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an office environment.
Physical Requirements

- Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer.
- Ability to sit at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
