Job Title: Chief Building Official FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME
Department: Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners’ Building Department
Immediate Supervisor: Ashtabula County Administrator
Position(s) supervised: Administrative Assistant/Permit Technician/Electrical Safety Inspector I
Certified Inspector I/Multi-Certified Inspector II/Multi-Certified Inspector III
Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field or Registered Professional Engineer or Architect; and five (5) years of experience in building code compliance, or ten (10) years of experience in building design, construction, or inspection; or any combination of education, training and/or work experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications required by the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards to be certified as a Building Official, as per Ohio Administrative Code. Required certifications: State of Ohio Certified Building Official, Certified Building Inspector and Residential Building Official. State of Ohio certified Electrical Safety Inspector and certification as an inspector with the Ohio Manufactured Home Commission and certification as a Floodplain Manager are highly desirable. Must have knowledge/experience of budgeting/finance, personnel management and supervisory skills. Must have exemplary interpersonal and technical skills. An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position. Must be able to comply with the Ashtabula County Drug Free Workplace Policy. Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with the ability to comply with the Ashtabula County Vehicle usage policies.
