Job Title:                              Inspector II

Department:                        Building Regulations

Immediate Supervisor:     Chief Building Official

Positions Supervised:        None

PayGrade/Pay Rate:         Pay Grade: 27 Pay Rate Per Hour: $23.50

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

Under direction, the Inspector II ensures building plans and structures under construction comply with approved contract documents and are installed in accordance with standard building practices.  Also ensures electrical systems and equipment installed in buildings under construction comply with approved contract documents and are installed in accordance with the National Electric Code.  Checks structural & safety elements including concrete, framing and structural supports, heating and ventilation systems, and electrical installations; documents all discrepancies found during inspections; conducts visual inspection of gas piping systems and materials in residential and commercial/industrial buildings; verifies pressure testing of gas piping systems through the use of meters, recorders or other approved devices; ensures compliance with applicable codes.

 

Advises contractors and property owners regarding reasons for non-conformance of construction and electrical installations, certifies conforming completed jobs to public utility, records actions taken on associated permits; answers questions from contractors and general public regarding construction and electrical requirements; investigates complaints involving code violations; attends various seminars to keep up to date on developments in the building code area.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to high school diploma. Must possess Certification as an Ohio Basic Building Code Class III Building Inspector and certification of competency as an Ohio Electrical Safety Inspector.  Either Residential Building Inspector or Residential Building Official certifications, or interim certifications as issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards; Must be able comply with the Ashtabula County Drug Free Workplace Policy.  Must be able to comply with the Ashtabula County Vehicle Use policy.  An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
