Job Duties:
Reviews submitted plans for new construction & alteration & renovation of all state owned buildings & commercial, residential & private construction, not under jurisdiction of certified building department, for compliance; examines plans to insure compliance with requirements of the Ohio Building Code (OBC), Ohio Revised Code (ORC), and other applicable codes, rules, and standards; examines blue prints to insure that plans specifications of footer foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, etc., meets the structural & physical requirements of the OBC; checks items such as live load limits for roofs, corridors, and fire rating of walls; check for location and number of sprinkler systems and smoke detectors, distances between proposed buildings and existing ones; checks soil for proper strength to support the building.
Provides consultation & technical advice to the public, industry & state agencies concerning plan review process; clarifies & resolves issues associated with codes & applicable rules; maintains knowledge of codes, standards and new technology.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor for bureau’s daily business operation (e.g., assist in reviewing and processing customers’ requests for certificates of occupancy, application for inspection without requiring sealed plans, adequacy review for pdf drawing files in electronic plan submission process when needed).
Minimum Qualifications: Certificate to practice architecture per Section 4703.06 of Revised Code or certificate of registration as professional engineer per Section 4733.02 of Revised Code.
