East Cleveland Housing Inspector

HOUSING INSPECTOR

DEPARTMENT: East Cleveland Building/Housing Department

REPORTS TO: Chief Building Commissioner

JOB LOCATION: 14340 Euclid Avenue

JOB STATUS: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY:

The Housing Inspector reports to the Building/Housing Commissioner. The inspector is responsible for the enforcement of the City’s housing, zoning and building codes through inspections and re-inspections of single family, two family and multi family dwellings. To inspect buildings and structures for compliance with International Property Maintenance code regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responds to property maintenance and zoning complaints
• Conducts point of sale inspections to assure safe, sound and sanitary conditions
• Implements programs both financial and with available labor forces, to assist residents with property maintenance and zoning compliance
• Complies a list of local businesses interested in helping residents
• Contacts local financial institutions that can assist residents with low interest loan programs
• Works with Department of Human Services to discover those in need of assistance
• Complies a list of volunteer organizations interested in assisting residents
• Attends meetings that would involve a property maintenance or zoning issue that was referred by the property maintenance/zoning inspector
• Any such other duties as shall be assigned by the Building Commissioner

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Applicant should possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent
• Applicant is required to have a valid Ohio Driver’s License
• Must have formal training and experience in housing inspections, code enforcement, construction or related fields
• Must have the ability to learn technical and construction concepts as it pertains to the City of East Cleveland’s Codified Ordinances
• Should have excellent communication skills and the ability to deal effectively and politely with the residents of East Cleveland, real estate agents, contractors, architects and co-workers

EQUIPMENT USED: Personal Computer, fax and standard office equipment

SALARY RANGE: per union contract
