Cleveland Heights Housing Inspector

JOB TITLE:              HOUSING INSPECTOR

REPORTS TO:           Director of Housing

 

The City of Cleveland Heights is accepting applications for the position of Housing Inspector.  The primary responsibilities include enforcing safety, maintenance and zoning codes for single, two and multi-family dwellings.  Inspector must check properties for proper electrical, plumbing and heating installations, as well as for general structural conditions in both interior and exterior of dwellings and accessory structures.  Inspectors also are responsible for the preparation of inspection notices, legal documents and other reports.  Accountable for resolving questions, complaints or appeals from residents and property owners.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

a.       High School diploma required; some college related courses or degree preferred.

b.      Minimum of two (2) years of housing-related experience.

c.       Must have excellent writing, oral and organization skills.

d.      Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record required.

e.       Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office and computer equipment.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

a.       The ability to interact professionally and respectfully with residence, property owners, real estate agents, contractors, architects, government      officials, lending institutions and co-workers.

b.      Ability to learn and master technical construction concepts as well as City codes relating to housing inspections.

c.       Ability to read, comprehend, interpret and implement all national, state, and local housing codes.

d.      Able to present housings cases in housing court and conduct quality control reviews.

e.       Ability to read and interpret technical materials relevant to these codes for the purpose of communicating appropriate information to applicants, code violators, and other appropriate parties.

f.       Capable of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external constituencies.

g.      Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement solutions.

 

Status:            Permanent, Full-Time                                   Annual Salary:             $31,200 – $37,000
