City of Middleburg Heights – Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector

The City of Middleburg Heights is currently hiring a full-time Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector.  The position is responsible for managing and administering the City’s code enforcement program for residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with State and Municipal codes and ordinances.

General Duties:               

Conducting property maintenance inspections in order to enforce housing codes as well as related codes and ordinances. Daily tasks include performing routine interior/exterior inspections and re-inspections of residential, commercial, rental and/or vacant properties in order to ensure compliance with housing code standards. Housing Inspectors must also respond to inquiries and complaints; prepare notices of code violations for property owners not in compliance; and propose repair options to remedy violations. The inspector shall be responsible for record keeping and preparation of cases that will be referred to the City prosecutor. Applicant must have the physical ability to work independently in the field and to make decisions regarding issuance of violation notices and compliance with the City’s housing and building codes.  Punctuality and regular attendance shall be maintained during City Hall hours Monday through Friday  8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).  

Qualifications:

The qualified applicant shall have any combination of education and work experience that would be equivalent to an associate degree. The qualified applicant shall also have experience in building construction, real estate appraisal, or any building and/or housing related field. A current certification as an International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector is highly desirable. A valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required. Applicant must be able to access all areas of a property and its structures. Strong written and verbal skills along with the ability to prepare reports and maintain inspections.

Salary Range:

$29.55 – $39.95/hour
