Chief Building Official

The Lake County Building Department is now accepting resumes for a Chief Building Official.  Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, structural or civil engineering, and an Ohio Building Official Certification. A Master Plans Examiner certification is preferred.

Applicants with experience in enforcement of adopted building codes are preferred. Applicants should be familiar with current construction practices and procedures and be able to read and understand maps, blueprints and site plans.

Chief Building Official will oversee all components of the Building Department activities; ensure compliance with County building regulations/policies as well as the Residential Code of Ohio and other State of Ohio Building codes for residential, commercial and industrial construction; process permit applications and issues permits; make field inspections as needed to back up and ensure quality work by Building and Electrical Inspections; address and resolve problems raised by inspectors, builders, developers, or the public; supervise work activities and performance of Building and Electrical Inspectors.

This position requires multi-tasking, problem solving, working with various teams and good public relation skills.  The successful applicant must be self-motivated and goal oriented. A valid Ohio driver’s license and a drug screening are required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and licensing. Position will remain open until filled.
