Assistant Building Inspector

The City of Brooklyn invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Building Commissioner.  There is currently one (1) opening.  Interested applicants can obtain employment applications on the City of Brooklyn’s website.  A properly completed application is required.  Inclusion of resume with application is preferred.

General Description of Duties:  The position of Assistant Building Commissioner works under the overall direction of the Building Commissioner and is responsible for performing building and zoning inspections to ensure compliance with State and City building and zoning laws and regulations.  The position reviews plans, provides advice to contractors about code provisions, inspects work done on site, and may, in the cases of non-compliance, order a stop to work.

Minimum Qualifications for Positions:  Certification by the State of Ohio as a Non-Residential Building Inspector with either Electrical Safety Inspector or Plumbing Inspector certification and, certification as Residential Building Inspector with Residential Plans Examiner certification; must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

Salary will be based per ordinances as established by City Council.
