The City of Broadview Heights has a great Full Time opportunity for an experienced Administrative
Assistant in our Building Department. This job is responsible for providing excellent customer service to
the general public and construction contractors and for supporting the functions of the Planning
Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). Performs a full range of office clerical duties in support
of the Building Commissioner and Mayor.

Duties and Responsibilities
*Greets public and responds to inquiries or, when necessary, refers to appropriate department
official.
*Performs routine clerical, secretarial and administrative support in answering telephones,
providing customer assistance, data processing, and record keeping.
*Works closely with housing inspector(s) to schedule inspections and enter data to computer
system.
*Issues, receives, types and processes various applications, permits and other forms; reviews
completed forms for signatures and proper entries.
*Maintains records pertaining to issuing building or other related permits.
*Distributes building permit information and reviews applications for permitting and licensing
relevant to building construction for compliance with prevailing laws, rules, regulations &
ordinances.
*Processes permit applications and issues permits in accordance with prevailing laws, rules,
regulations & ordinances.
*Assesses and collects fees required for the issuance of Building permits and summarizes those
fees for deposit by the Finance Department.
*Prepares & distributes monthly and annual reports and other reports as requested regarding the
issuance of permits.
*Informs interested citizens of the zoning ordinance provisions.
*Notifies the news media regarding land use and zoning matters of public interest, particularly
the time and place of public hearings.
*Prepares the Agendas for monthly meetings of the Commission.
*Receives, files and transmits to the Commission or Board all applications, petitions, transcripts
and other communications on which they must act.
*Advises the Commission and the Board of pertinent provisions of the ordinance regarding
development proposals.
*Maintains permanent and current records of applications, reclassifications, variance, conditional
use permits, minutes of BZA & Planning Commission meetings, and of the hearings and actions
thereon.
*Provides a liaison between the Commission and The Board, and performs such duties as
requested by the Commissioners to assist them in carrying out the provisions of the Ordinance
controlling their actions.
*Communicates openly with the citizens of the community and provides general direction and
guidance to all applicants, within the confines of the local Comprehensive Planning and Zoning
Ordinances.
*Performs related duties as required, both within the Building Department and throughout City
Hall.
Requirements:
*High school diploma or equivalent. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook,
calculator, and general office equipment.
*Knowledge of accounting principles, payments, deposits and creating and maintaining
spreadsheets.
*Effective communications and excellent telephone, email, written and in-person customer
service skills.
*Strong organizational skills, ability to professionally handle stressful situations, and multitask.
*Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
*Experience in a similar position within a City government office is strongly preferred.
Pay Range: $20.54 – $28.48
